Test Accommodations

Accommodations in testing are modifications or adjustments in test administration for students with disabilities. Accommodations provide students with disabilities better opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Testing accommodations should reflect the particular needs of the individual student. For students with disabilities, the IEP is the document that should guide decisions regarding appropriate modifications.

Examples of common accommodations include the following:
• Large print
• Braille
• Reader
• Sign language or oral interpreter
• Additional testing time
• Rest breaks
• More than one test day
• Dictionary
• Calculator
• Spell-check for essay
• Word processor for essay
• Color overlay
• Distraction-free testing room
• Permission to record answers in the test book instead of on the answer sheet
